Next Generation Programme

PROGRAMME OVERVIEW 
Each session of the Next Generation programme will offer 15-20minutes theory and 30minutes activities. The theory base will cover the following concepts;


· Healthy body image—weight, BMI and feeling good about yourself regardless of the numbers
· What is overweight or obese -
· What happens when you are an unhealthy weight—illness and mental health problems, learning difficulties, gain some understanding of different body types and conditions that can impact on weight gain
· Food types, food categories
· Nutritional benefits of certain foods
· Making a shopping list of healthy foods and snacks
· Problem foods and drinks vs good foods and drink
· Calorie content, fats and sugars—understanding food labelling—homework exercise to count calories for a day
· Whole family fitness  - homework exercise to get parents and family members to partake in an activity of child's choice
· What it means to be active every day—teaching skills to incorporate activity into every day life
· Energy burning activities vs non energy burning past times
· Positive attitude to life, healthy mind and healthy body
· Sports opportunities


We will design small homework projects to suit each age group, that will also incorporate parent and family involvement.

Each session shall allow feedback from the group.

Exercises will be taught , including warm up and stretching and cool down activities. Activities and chores that can be done every day around the house shall also be introduced as energy burning activities, to incorporate fitness in to every day life and family fun.

Programme design will vary depending on the age group and individual class needs, in consultation with teachers and parent feedback.


Fair Dinkum Fitness provides opportunity for all ages to learn healthy living skills. We have recently taken focus on our younger generation, and how best we may help them learn and use such skills to maintain a healthy lifestyle, achieve their goals and stay fit.

The obesity rate in our western civilised nations is ever increasing. In Geelong and the Surf Coast region alone we have twice as many children suffering obesity as any other area in Victoria. Now is the time for change. As parents, teachers and health care workers, we must provide tools for life and in doing so we allow our children ever opportunity to fulfil a happy and healthy life.

Our Next Generation programme will fulfil the following main objectives;

· Education of young people in the area of healthy eating. Not only shall we show the children the foods and food groups which provide good sources of nutrition, but also how these foods can be easy to use,  fun recipes they can make and how they may sustain a healthier life by using such nutritional knowledge.
· Provide the skills to understand the benefit of being active, and in a fun manner provide exercises and games which they can do every day.
· To provide an understanding of how exercise and fitness can enhance learning and life skills
· Enable our younger generation to develop the skills which can enhance future life choices by encouraging team work and self motivation—working toward goals.
· Encourage a no tolerance attitude to bullying and segregation of individuals who may suffer obesity or have a disability of any type.
· Provide the participants with a positive community role model

How will we achieve these objectives;

· Through fun filled training sessions which will incorporate a portion of time on active tasks and a portion on nutritional and exercise theory
· Sessions will be tailored to age groups and learning abilities, with consultation with teachers and feedback from parent groups
· In training sessions children may be assigned tasks, provided new challenges and asked to work within a group/team
· Homework tasks may be given at the discretion of the teacher—material will be provided by Fair Dinkum Fitness

Our main aim is to make our sessions enjoyable and memorable for the participants and encourage the feeling of success through fitness, which may play out into all aspects of life by giving our Next Generation a positive outlook and healthy body.
